▣ TYPE: Workshop
⧇ CLIENT: Store Projects
▤ KEY MATERIALS: Timber / Wood Wool / Wood Fibre / Clay
▦ METHODOLOGY: Material Research / 1:1 Testing
⧆ COLLABORATORS: Chris Kokarev / Shreya Sarin / Will Bradley
In this series of workshops titled Building With Sustainable Materials, students explored the potential of using found and bio-based materials in designing a new building. Across eight sessions they worked in groups to develop architectural ideas from conception to 1:1 prototypes. These prototypes form the basis for the future development of the new Store Projects workshop. This after school club was run in collaboration with and facilitated by Store Projects Hackney.
The participants were invited to design and build a fragment of a wall-floor junction, as an exercise on how to insulate and fit out a disused garage unit as a workshop. Each group of students was asked to design their fragments to suit the requirements of different spaces - the bathroom, the kitchen and the workshop. In this process they learned about sustainable materials and their properties, and also how to use basic workshop tools.
