Through a seven-day workshop, facilitated alongside Mark Harrington (Master Thatcher) and Mollie McMillen (Natural Weaver), students and residents of Barking explored the experimental use of reed in construction. The workshop was held in collaboration with Yasmeen Lari, with a focus on working within and drawing materials from wetlands and flood prone areas.

The structure will be on display at A House for Artists throughout June 2024 as part of the London Festival of Architecture. The workshop forms part of Create London’s Breaking Waves programme, exploring the relationship between climate change and industrial heritage in Barking & Dagenham. Breaking Waves was commissioned by Create London and made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The architecture commission is supported by the British Council.
